Outfit Quickie - BBQ with Friends

When a BBQ is going to start late afternoon in the heat, but then cool down quickly, you need something fab and versatile!  Enter my best friend  - denim shirt !

Rock up looking uber-chic with your white sleeveless linen t, then as it cool, throw on your denim shirt, unbuttoned.  Sleeveless with a scarf = rocking it.  The only trick for the conservative (like me!) is to leave the denim shorts at home - I can't do double denim, I just can't - I was an 80's child and am denim scarred for life!

Compare the Pair - Braided Shopper

Ever coveted the beautiful, gorgeous, Divine Zara Braided Shopper?

*swoon*

But at over $140 AND the fact that Zara does not ship to Australia (sob!) I have had to be content with just looking at it online, and every time someone goes to Melbourne or Sydney (my fella usually!) beg them to get me something from lovely Zara.

That is, until I found these !

And they are less than  $50 !  You can have both !

Now I did not discover this myself, it was on Penny Pincher Fashion - so thank you !

And yes, I have already bought mine - and she is gorgeous:

Now Zara, if you are reading this, can you PLEASE open a store in Perth ?  I promise I will shop there at least once a week, and I have friends!  Thank you - Lori x

The Best I ever Bought......Crop Pants Part 1

With the millions and trillions of choices for basics on the net, occasionally you find something on your ongoing wish list that are just perfect - and you want to share!  Because surely everyone is looking for the perfect fit/colour/style (or all 3!) just like you?  Perfect white shirt, perfect flat black boots, perfect navy blazer - etc etc.

Well, I have found the perfect, low-cost, black crop pants. Depending on your currency, they are around $32-34 - but ASOS always have coupons, so you should get them for less than $30!

These lovelies are a polyester mix, so care and washing is a breeze (ummm have I ever ironed them?...........whoops!) and have a neat little seam running down the front of the pant, so that nice crisp finish is part of the pant itself.  They have a front zipper, but give a lovely flat front, so even with a tiny pooch-pooch you will find these really flattering - well I did anyhow.  They also have two little 'pretend' zips in lieu of pockets - now these 'de-corporate' the pants, which I like, but they would still suit the office if they aren't super-prof in work attire.

The crop is above the ankle, so they are a true crop, not a 7/8, which I like.  They look great with wedges, and with cute ballet flats.

Tomorrow, I will show you how I have styled these 3 ways!  Yes, I know you just can't wait for that :)

Find to Fabulous - "McQueen" scarf

Now this has to go down in the major finds of all time, but let me preface it by saying this:

I am not a huge fan of knock-offs that pretend to be the other product - you know, like bags in Phuket that say Marc Jacobs but have never seen the inside of a MJ factory ever.  I am however a BIG fan of what I like to call 'mimics' - items that pay homage to a higher end style, usually in clothes, and don't try & present they are Prada when they are Target.

Now this one is a very close call - so close, you can call me two-face Larry.

I have coveted an Alexander McQueen chiffon forever, I love the look of the over sized linen t with a loose scarf un-knotted and I wear that look often.  However I just couldn't justify the price, although at cost per wear, I probably should have!

So one day when strolling through my local - nope, I not going to tell you yet - I saw this beauty, and I scooped her up so fast that you would have thought I had found a winning lottery ticket !  Now, i would have preferred the classic black/ivory version, but hey, beggars cannot be choosers.

And I have worn it and worn it and worn it - and it cost $8 !!!

Above:  Original Alexander McQueen Pink and Black Chiffon scarf $201.27

Above:  My 'mimic' version and the fabulous wearing of same! (with my gorgeous fella x)

Now where did I find it ?!

Kmart!

Yes, you read that right, Kmart!

Now look - It ried to find it online for you, but Kmart only sell DVDs etc online, but if you live in Australia, hotfoot it to Kmart and see what you can rustle up!

Quickie Crush - Shift Dress

I have been 'crusin' this dress for a while - and I think it has come back in stock!

I love everything about shirt dresses - the way they hang, drape and can have a covered sleeve without looking matronly.

It is a look that those of us over 30 (ahem) can wear with confidence that we are not doing the mutton lamb lamby-lamby thing - which I try so hard to avoid, but makes me sad when I see 'pretty' things.  Not skanky things, pretty things.  Death to the bodycon dress!

Plain shift dresses are also great for the office, a standby 'wedding guest' dress, and can be dressed down with sandals & a straw bag for a bbq, or dressed up with a unusual necklace and some outrageous heels for something more chic - and hair up girls!
